Manicure

A manicure is a cosmetic beauty treatment for the fingernails and hands in a nail salon. A manicure consists of filing and shaping the free edge, pushing and clipping (with a cuticle pusher and cuticle nippers) any nonliving tissue (but limited to the cuticle and hangnails), treatments with various liquids, oils and the application of fingernail polish, if wanted.

Hard Gel

What is Hard Gel?

Hard gel has been around since the early 1980s as an alternative to the traditional liquid powder acrylic system. After a slow start, hard gel nails started gaining popularity in the 1990s and
according to NAILS Magazine by 2010 63% of salons were offering a hard gel service.

There is a lot of confusion in regards to the different kind of gels in the nail industry right now. The most popular at the moment is soft gel, also known as gel polish or shellac which have nothing to do with hard gel . These are nail lacquers that come in a nail polish bottle and are brushed on, then cured in a UV or LED light. Hard gel is a form of gel like acrylic that is also cured in a UV or LED light. It comes in a “pot”, has a much thicker consistency, and is applied with a special gel brush. Hard gel is typically clear in color or pink and white for french tips. Hard gel is used for nail enhancements and needs to be filled every 3-4 weeks. Soft gel is a semi-permanent polish that has a two week longevity and is then soaked off and reapplied. Soft gels can be soaked off because they have a lower molecular structure allowing acetone to penetrate and soften the gel. Hard gel has a much tighter molecular structure making soaking them off not an option. This also means that soft gel is more flexible and less durable than hard gel.

Anyone who would like to have durable natural looking nails without dealing with the odors of acrylic or the hassle of soaking off soft gel every two weeks. There are also people who are allergic to the resin in traditional acrylic and hard gel is the perfect alternative. Unlike acrylic, gel will stay glossy and retain its sheen instead of yellowing over time like acrylic does.  Gel is also slightly flexible. If you are prone to banging your nails and cracking your acrylics, gel is a better option for you. Instead of cracking, gel will flex a little and bend with your nail. Hard gel is an all-around great product that I would recommend to anyone.

Pedicure

A pedicure is a cosmetic treatment of the feet and toenails. There are many types of pedicures that range in method, but a classic or regular pedicure generally takes place in a nail salon rather than a spa. As the customer, you will sit in a comfortable chair and likely receive the following:

  • A warm foot soak to help soften and relax the skin and toenails

  • A foot scrub to remove calluses and flaky, dry foot skin with a  foot file.

  • Moisturizer applied via a short foot and lower leg massage

  • A careful trim and file of the toenails

  • A nail cuticle treatment that includes the cuticles being pushed back and the application of nourishing cuticle oil

  • Optional: Add application of a polish or Shellac polish or a 10 min. foot and leg massage

Shellac

Unlike wait-dry manicures the Shellac mani takes up less time, strengthens your natural nails 15 times and lasts a lot longer and won't chip or dull - the nail varnish dream you might say? Shellac, created by Creative Nail Design (CND), is a 4-step manicure cured under UV light and thanks to a mix of polymers and monomers hardens to a high-shine finish that lasts around a fortnight. Not to be confused with 'acrylics' or 'hard gels', the Shellac is a blend of nail varnish and gel that paints the nail and doesn't extend or shape it.

ACRYLIC Nails

Liquid and powder enhancements are arguably the enhancement type that most nail clients are familiar with. Often referred to as acrylic nails. Liquid and powder enhancements are applied with a brush dipped in a sometimes strong-smelling liquid monomer and then a powder, and shaped onto the nail. Liquid and powder enhancements cure without a light, and once hardened and cured, are quite strong. Powders can be clear, white, pink, or a myriad of different colors. Additive drops can be added to the monomer liquid to change the color and achieve stained glass-like results. Liquid and powder is an ideal medium for embedding materials such as glitter, dried flowers, stone chips, etc. It is durable and perfect for long enhancements or overlays of the natural nail.
